First of all, we want to thank each and every one of you.

Your enthusiasm made this year’s RUSH the best yet!

We had a fantastic time – as we hope you did – watching you climbing, crawling, hugging, eating and puzzling your way to the finish line, but as you all know, RUSH is about so much more.

Thanks to your hard work and dedication, the 2011 RUSH: Race and Urban Scavenger Hunt raised a grand total of $65,830.00 to help improve the lives of British Columbians who suffer from breathing problems.

On their behalf we want to send a huge shout out to all of you, as well as to our volunteers and sponsors, for making this event such a huge success!

THANK YOU! — And we hope to see you all again next year!

Team Dinosaur Takes Home the Top Fundraising Prize!

Congratulations to Team Dinosaur (AKA Helen and Susan) who raised $2,355 to become our RUSH 2011 top fundraising team! Not only do they get props from all of us at the BCLA, but they’re walking away with a $150 Earls gift card, free registration to next year’s event AND the top fundraising team prize – these two brand new Blackberries from TELUS!

We also have 17 other teams who have raised over $1,000 and will be getting $75 Earls gift cards (as well as free registration next year)! Congratulations to all of our winners, and a heartfelt thank you from the BC Lung Association event team & staff to every single RUSHer for all your hard work and support!

Our fantastic RUSH photographers took hundreds of photos that area all available for you to download so you’ll never forget that time you had wet sponges launched at your face or when you tried to make it through a string maze blindfolded! Congratulations to the Fresh Breath Girls!

First of all, thank you to everyone who showed up despite the rain yesterday to make the RUSH 2011 a huge success!

And, of course, congratulations to the Fresh Breath Girls, who won the race in three hours and 48 minutes! They also won this year’s video contest with this video:

The RUSH Top 10 – IMPORTANT INFO

It’s only three sleeps away! We are busy putting the final touches on the RUSH and can’t wait to see all of you get messy, silly and sweaty working your way through the RUSH course at top speed! Because we want each and every one of you to have a fantastic time – whether you’re the first team back or not – here are our top 10 things you should know before heading down to Jack Poole Plaza on Saturday:

Official start/finish line: Jack Poole Plaza (better known as the location of the Olympic Cauldron). The address is 999 Canada Place. For more info and a map, go here.
Check in: Register Arrival time at the start line is 8:45 am; if you came to the BCLA office on Thursday or Friday and checked in already, come at 9:00 am. There will be important announcements, so don’t be late!
Don’t forget to bring: If you checked in BEFORE the event, don’t forget to bring your t-shirt, race number, bus pass and after party ticket. If you are checking in on the day, don’t forget to bring both signed waivers and your team’s minimum $200 donation. IF YOU FORGET ANY OF THESE ITEMS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RACE!!!
After party! It’s happening at Mahony & Sons Public House: The party will be open when teams start arriving back at the finish line, so you can go straight over and have that free drink from Stanley Park Brewery, meet some of your fellow RUSHers and get your photo taken courtesy of PixelBooth!
We expect you to be on your best behaviour! You MUST obey all RUSH rules and regulations, as well as all local laws and transit regulations. You are responsible for knowing what the rules, regulations and laws are – you will be held accountable for your actions and will be DISQUALIFIED if you don’t abide by them!
What to wear: Keep an eye on the weather when you’re getting ready on Saturday, and make sure you dress accordingly (including sunscreen if it’s hot!) – bearing in mind, of course, that your event t-shirt MUST BE VISIBLE AT ALL TIMES!
Gadgetry and maps: We HIGHLY recommend that you have a freshly-charged smartphone, or at the very least a lifeline (someone you can call who will be available to help you at any time and has access to the internet). Likewise if you need a map to help you get around (and you probably will) make sure you’ve got one with you or cued up on your smartphone. We won’t give you one.
Food & Water: Eat a proper breakfast to keep your energy up! It’s the most important meal of the day, particularly when the day includes a 6-hour scavenger hunt! Also be sure to bring snacks and water with you so you can eat and drink on the go. Hydration is important! YYoung Water will have water for you at the finish line, but checkpoints won’t have any, so you’re responsible for your own hydration during the race!
Pack light! We won’t have any type of coat or bag check for your belongings, so whatever you bring you must keep with you at all times.
Parking vs. Transit: Downtown parking is scarce, and as you all know, you are NOT permitted to take your car with you, so make use of your transit passes! The start line is only a block away from the Waterfront Skytrain Station, so there’s really no need to drive!

More Stuff to Win!!

Those of you who joined us for the RUSH last year might remember that not only did we have the great prizes for the RUSH winners, but we also have some bonus prizes (to be announced, but it could be anything from movie tickets to a Gold RUSH Pass…) for categories like best team name and best costume. You’ve already got the super-fantastically awesome names picked out by this point, but you do have a couple of days to prepare a team costume!
